Grand Summer Outing to Hampton Court Samantha Fogelman |
This years summer outing was a visit to the splendid Hampton Court Palace on Sunday 15th July. The weather held up as some thirty-five NWES members and friends met at 1pm to picnic on the lawn amongst the beautiful gardens
The Chaplain of the Chapel Royal, Reverend Denis Mulliner then welcomed us and then guided us through the Palace apartments, answering any questions we had about what we were seeing.
Whilst the Reverend retired to attend to his duties at Choral Evensong we were free to explore the gardens, the famous maze or to watch our own John Bodie, who was giving a demonstration of real tennis'. This was fascinating to watch as the court and rules are quite different to the modern game of tennis that we all know.
When Reverend Mulliner returned at 4.30 to continue our tour, we visited the kitchens and then the magnificent chapel. We then bade farewell to him and a very weary bunch made their way back to West London. A wonderful day was had by all.
Thank you to the organisers of this successful event and we all look forward in anticipation to next summer!
