Rabbi Geoffrey Shisler’s Induction

Sunday 28 January

Sunday 28 January was an exceptionally happy day for everyone at the New West End as the Chief Rabbi inducted Rabbi Shisler into his new post.

The Synagogue was packed – about 400 people – who came from far and wide, with large coachloads of well wishers from Bournemouth and from Kenton, and a very full turnout from New West End members.

As well as the synagogue choir who were in excellent voice, our own Cheder junior choir sang splendidly, and the occasion was graced with the presence of the Lord Mayor of Westminster and other dignitaries.

The Chief Rabbi spoke eloquently and positively of Rabbi and Mrs Shisler’s appointment – "a marriage made in heaven" – and urged us all to be inspired and led forwards by the enthusiasm and dynamism of an outstanding couple. In his reply Rabbi Shisler emphasised how much the Synagogue was a two-way process. He, together with Anne, would do all they could to make their roles a success, but in the end they were dependent on our shared commitment and keenness to see a fresh and exciting future for the shul.

There’s no doubt that we are extremely fortunate to have such a rare couple at the helm of the New West End. Let’s give them all the support and backing we can individually and as a community and work towards making our future together happy and successful
