CHEDER NEWS
By TESSA LAWS
I am pleased to report that Mrs Salomon has had a very successful first year as headmistress of the Cheder. The Cheder, while still quite small, has an enthusiastic bunch of attendees ranging from 4-13 years of age. With four equally enthusiastic teachers available every Sunday morning the needs of all ages are adequately met. The childrens education covers a wide scope and ranges from Hebrew reading and writing through to Torah study and learning about the festivals, their reasons and the ways in which they are celebrated.
Some of the extra-curricular activities enjoyed by the kids during the year included a Chanukah party, a Cheder Seder, a Lag bOmer outing and an end of year concert.
Please encourage your children and grandchildren to join us!
Many thanks to Rona Steinberg for her unfaltering dedication to the Cheder over the past years and to Estelle Salomon for dealing successfully with the challenges of her first year leading the Cheder.

THE ROVING REPORTER:
DIVIDE AND SEPARATE
AN EVENING OF OVER THE SHOULDER
BOULDER HOLDERS
By Charlotte Swindon
You would not have thought that on a very wet Monday evening in May, the New West End Guild would meet to learn the hidden depths and mechanics of successful wiring, but we did not want hints on electrical circuitry, or amps and fuses, but the secrets of successful underwiring around our rib cages!
June Kenton, the woman behind Rigby and Peller, suppliers of corsetry by Royal Appointment gave us an insight into her under world.
After a brief history of her business, and some inside glimpses of Buckingham Palace, she showed us some ancient constructions and told some of us off for wearing the wrong size bras! Thankfully, someone had the foresight to make this a womens only evening, allowing us all to relax, laugh at some of the stories, and check our undergarments!
On a more serious note, however, the evening was in aid of Chai Lifeline, and together with a raffle, we raised £360 for the charity.
Even if you were unable to attend, we would like to pass on Junes advice to us all, to be Breast Aware, and have your bras fitted by someone qualified to do.
