VOLUNTEERS ARE US

By a Correspondent

On 10th June the United Synagogue held their second annual Volunteers Awards with a reception and presentation at the St John’s Wood Synagogue.

Synagogue executives were asked to nominate three members of their kehilla who have volunteered their time to the community. Our winners this year were Joe Miller, Natalie Cutler and Samantha Fogelman.

Joe volunteers his time by visiting those in the local Jewish community who are unwell in hospital. Natalie organises the Care Committee which in conjunction with the Friendship club looks after and befriends those in our kehilla who find it difficult to get out and about. Samantha organises (with Tony Rosenfeld) the monthly children’s service, edits the magazine with Henry Magrill and helps out in and around the shul office.

Each received certificates, signed by the Chief Rabbi, Angela Eagle (from the Home Office) and Peter Sheldon, along with specially commissioned clocks engraved with "In recognition of the time devoted to US’.

Well done and keep up the good work!

WE CARE

By Natalie Cutler

The Cares Committee has been around for a while and we work in conjunction with the Friendship Club, the shul secretary and Rabbi Shisler to keep up to date on anyone who would like us to call. The synagogue and its various committees work together in an effort to endure that no member ever feels that they are not part of a community.

If you have some time and would like to become part of our visitation committee or would like would like a visit or know someone who does, please contact Natalie on 0207 602 4747.

Rest assured that we all enjoy going to see people as much as they enjoy receiving us.
